Google created a new AI model for talking to dolphins

Posted on April 14, 2025

Dolphins are generally considered Smart all Creature on the planet. Research has shown that they can cooperate, teach each other new skills, and even recognize themselves in the mirror. For decades, scientists have tried to realize the complex reservoir of whistles and clicks that use dolphins for communication. Researchers can soon move a little on this front with the help of Google’s Open AI model and some pixel phones.

Google Generative AI is finding ways to work in everything, so why not cooperate with the Wild Dolphin Project (WDP)? The group has been studying dolphins since 1985 to track a specific community of Atlantic Spotted dolphins. The WDP has developed a video and audio recording of dolphins, as well as notes on their behavior.

One of the main goals of the WDP is to analyze the voice of dolphins and how to affect their social interactions. With decades of underwater recording, researchers have been able to connect some basic activities with specific sounds. For example, Atlantic Spotd Dolphins have signed seats that appear to be used like names, which allow two specific people to find each other. They also produce “squad” sound samples permanently during the fighting.

Researchers at WDP believe that Dolphin’s sound structures and patterns must be understood to determine whether their communication reaches the level of a language. “We don’t know whether animals have words,” says WDP’s Dennis Herzing.

The ultimate goal is to speak dolphin, if there is really such a language. Due to the achievement of this goal, the WDP has created a widespread, cautiously labeled data set, which Google says is the best Perfect of analysis with Generative AI.

Meet Dolphngima

Large language models (LLM), which have become inevitable in consumer tech, are primarily predicted by samples. You provide them with an input, and the models predict the next token until they have out. When a model is trained effectively, this output feels as if it was created by a person. Google and the WDP hope that the same is possible for the maritimers to do the same with Dolphingamma.

Dolphngima is based on Google Jema Open AI ModelWhich are made on the same basis as the company itself The commercial gymnonym model. The Dolphin Communication Model uses a Google Audio Technology called sound stream to break the dolphin vocalization, which can cause them to open the sound in the model as soon as they are recorded.
