Trump has “a little problem” with Apple’s plan to ship iPhones from India

Analysts estimates that it will cost tens of billions of dollars and that Apple will take years to increase iPhone manufacturing in the United States, where it currently produces only a very limited number of products.

US Trade Secretary Howard Lotank said last month that Cook told him that the United States would need “robotic weapons” to create a copy of the “scale and precision” of iPhone manufacturing in China.

“She’s going to build it here,” Lutonk told CNBC. “And the US is going to become technicians operating factories. They will not be a wandering in it.”

Lutink added that his previous comments “Millions and millions of people have been entering the Little patch to make iPhones.

He added, “American factories are going to work on such excellent, high -paying jobs.”

For Narendra Modi’s government, changing India by some Apple suppliers is a great success in promoting local manufacturing and attracting companies trying to diversify from China.

Mobile phones are now one of India’s first exports, in which the country sells more than $ 7 billion worth of US $ 7 billion in the financial year of 2024-25, which was $ 77 billion last year. The majority of them were iPhones, which Apple’s suppliers make in plants in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states in South India.

Modi and Trump are ideologically attached and personal, but India’s high taxes are a point of friction, and Washington has threatened to hit 26 % tariffs.

India and the United States – its largest trading partner A is discussing a bilateral trade agreement, which they say will agree with their fall.

“India is one of the highest tariffs in the world in India, it is very difficult to sell in India,” Trump also said in Qatar on Thursday. “They have presented us a contract where they are primarily willing to receive any tax from us literally. They are the most and they are no longer saying any tariffs.”
