Car HUDs Are Bad. Jaguar Land Rover Is Testing Tech to Change That

Posted on May 27, 2025

New technology does not Get fully configured, I remind myself when I put a strap on the patch of the sea bandits, then place the heavy bicycle helmet on my head. This is not the most glamorous gate -up. But here, in a small office in a hungry business park located on the outskirts of Cambridge, England, this can be the basis of a remarkable thing.

I am here to meet All Focal OpticsA startup that patented a new type of nanophotonic lens with the power to replace everything from virtual Headsets of increased realityNight Vision Faces, binoculars, cameras and headup display (HUDS). Jaguar Land Rover to find out that after launching a research project to find out, after finding out that the lens can improve the car’s hood, and at the same time improve the safety of the road.

Its makers also claim and prove with the aforementioned helmet as well as a butcher with MetaCest 3 – that the lens can produce a digital image with a clear explanation, whether you have faulty vision, without glasses.

Founded in 2022 as Lark, but since the name of the All -Focal Optics has been renamed, the company is headed by Dr. Poon Sheristha, a colleague of the former Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise. Former Microsoft and former MetaAR Boss’s technology VP, Dr. Ash Solbury, joined the chair late last year, at the same time when Startup received a $ 5.3 million funding period.

All -focal optics says the lens he has created offers two technical achievements. First of all, when used in an AR or VR headset like Apple Vision Pro or MetaCyst 3, it claims to provide a crystal clear vision to the wearer, even if they need glass but are not worn.

Even if you need an important prescription, or suffer from estigateism, its makers say that the glasses are beaming a clear picture directly on your retina, completely ignoring glasses. Theory, two people can share the same AR or VR headset, even if one has 20/20 vision and the other needs a very strong correction lens.

I tested several prototypes of lenses and, yes, it works. I do not wear glasses, so the first demonstration – reached the headset with a laptop look at the digital text – does not look too impressive. But then I repeated so strong tests by wearing glasses that I could not see my hands in front of my face, and still digital text was still faster. It is like a tech demo that takes a moment to truly appreciate, but when your brain eventually links the dots, it feels like magic.

Input, despite having the same 720p resolution, not only does the lens side stop vision defects that Microsoft’s Holo Lens (this comfortably comfortable) produces a faster image than the choice. It was easy with the prototype lens – and this is the place where the patch comes – reading a portion of the text where half was increased and half was hidden on a paper sheet, but it was impossible with Holon. There was a half -blurred mess of each line.

Is looking sharp

What’s more, the text remains sharp, regardless of what is actually focusing on your eyes. I experienced just a few inches from my face, then focusing on my hand from the other side of the room, yet the growing text remained focused. Interestingly, its size depends on where you are seeing. I can show it as a small font on my finger, or as a poster -sized writing on the opposite wall. It is also possible to look at it, focusing on the middle distance as you drive, but it doesn’t matter that your eyes and their lenses do anything, the digital text is fast and remarkable.
