Apple’s executive Eddie said that Apple is “actively watching” by transferring the focus of mobile safari search experience to AI search engines, which potentially challenges Google’s long -run search and a profitable default search engine contract for both companies. The statements were made while Qi testified for the US Department of Justice in the Alphabet/Google Anti -Trust trial, as reported for the first time. Bloomberg.
Qi noted that the searches in Safari fell for the first time last year, and they quickly attributed this shift to consumers using a large language model solution to perform their searches.
Apple said of the deal with Google, “Before AI, the feeling around me was that, none of the others was the right choice.” He added: “I think there is more capacity today because there are newcomers who attacked the issue in different ways.”
Here he was pointing to companies such as anxiety, who try to offer an alternative to cementing search engines with a view like chat. Cue said Apple has already talked with anxiety.
Talking about AI-based search engines, he said, “We will add them to the list”-referring to the default search engine selector in the Safari settings. He said, “They will probably not be default” because they still need to improve, especially when the indexing is talked about.
