“Whatever I do, what I do is not viable in the public unless we make any changes, which are in action,” said Hemite. “We will take the lead from this administration. … As a department and a service, how can we talk more about this work more publicly. But we do not have the effect of all this guidance.

The maximum openness of the space force and the cost of the cost is to affect the grip of the nation’s major defense contractors. If the programs are not as confidential, space companies do not need the highest security clearance to bid on contracts. And many of these startups have the support of wealthy founders or project capital.

The question that Hemat has asked today is: Why should the government pay anything of billionaires that is already funding?

Although SpaceX guided to revolutionize the trade launch business, a new wave of companies has missiles, interceptors, surveillance data, and the recent space RCO pitch -day, sensors, propoluses, and place -based AI to protect the satellite.

Fearless to the blade

The 10 companies participating in the recent pitch day are relatively new to the space industry. Everyone except one is under eight years of age, and most of them are less than 200 employees.

In preparation for the program, Hemat said his office reduced the list of 62 interesting companies to 10. The initial list included smaller firms and traditional military contractors, often known as “defense prime” in the Arcan World of Government. Although Hamet did not name these companies, it is likely that you’ve heard of them. For reference, Pentagon’s Five largest contractor Lockheed are Martin, RTX (former Ritheven), Northup Gromine, General Dynamics, and Boeing.

Hamet said, “All these traditional prime prime has taken out of the program, everyone.” “We are cultivating a team that is ready to work with us, which is hungry, who wants to bring cheap and speed, and this is not the basis of the current industry.”

The Hemat’s office did not go out to deport major defense contractors. In direct words, he said he did not perform or is not interested in going in the direction that the RCO wants to go.

“I have terminated 11 major deals in less than three years,” said Hamet, “said Hamet. Most of these programs have been classified, so when the contract is canceled, it does not become news.

“We try to fix the programs,” said Hamet, “We work with the actors, but if they can’t be fine, and if we have programs basins where they are now more than 100 % in cost or schedule … we’re going to dismiss and resume them.”

At the same time, venture -backed companies emerge from the Silicon Valley’s sky or one of the country’s other tech passages every day.

“There is a lot of opportunity to bring other actors into portfolio, but there are many obstacles,” Hemat said. One of these obstacles is many startups leading to security clearance. Many small companies do not use certified accounting systems that the government usually needs for federal agreements.

“You have to be prepared to edit your point of view, your attainment strategies, such things, so I have instructed my team to open an aperture, wherever the A team is living, because it seems that it is not in our current portfolio.”

The Space Force launches three generations of GPS satellite, which is capable of broadcasting jam -resistant military grade navigation signals, but delay in the ground system has prevented US forces from fully adopting it. The photo depicts the GPS III satellite in Lockheed Martin.

According to Hamet, there is still a place left for the current Pentagon contractors. Small companies have a national, or even globally lack of mark to put the most expensive military programs in the smaller companies like the Space RCO pitch.
