President Trump on Tuesday dismissed two Democratic members of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which established a challenge for the 1935 Supreme Court, which forbids the firing of FTC commissioners for other reasons besides “good Cause”.
White House Ended Commissioners Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Alwar Badwia Earlier on Tuesday, the New York Times reported. In a statement, the slaughter described the firing as “illegal”.
Slaughter said, “Today, the president illegally dismissed me as a Federal Trade Commissioner, which violated a law and a simple language of the Supreme Court.” “Why? Because I have a voice. And he is afraid that I will tell the American people.”
The FTC, which usually has five members, was established in 1914 and was accused of enforcing consumer protection and non -confidence laws. The Trump administration has aggressively challenged the authority of independent regulatory agencies, including the FTC.
