Streaks on Mars pillars

Welcome to Telescope. There is a lot of darkness in this world and there is not enough light. We will allow other posts to offer you a daily mood. In ARS Technica, we will take a different way, which will be inspired by the very real pictures of a universe that is full of stars and surprises.

One of the longest mystery about Mars is the presence of dark and light lines on the rolling hills around the Olympus Mons. This week’s icon, from the European Space Agency, some of these lines were shown last October.

The massive mountain is about 222 km above the surface of Mars, which is twice as much as Mount Everest on Earth. It is affiliated with the reserves of the courage, called Orulus, formed by land sliding from the mountain. An amazing feature of these oravices is the appearance of the bright and dark lines from time to time. A few days and sometimes for years.

For decades, scientists have wondered what they can do.

The lines look like the flowing water. Initially, scientists believed that these properties could be a flow of salty water or saline water, which remained long enough to travel under the oravh. This offered tantalizing possibilities that these oasis could still have life at the level of Mars.

However, now it appears that this is not the case. According to The new research appeared On Monday, in the journal Nature Communications, these slopes are dry, possibly suddenly slipped from the area standing due to the layers of dust. To reach this conclusion, researchers used machine learning algorithm for scan and catalog lines in 86,000 satellite images from NASA’s Mars maintenance orbit. He created a map of 500,000 lines at Mars level. In doing so, researchers did not find any evidence of water.

The image of today’s post has been revealed by the European Space Agency’s Exominers Trace Gas orbit, and has been slightly amended to enhance the appearance of the series. It looks like art.
